Greetings from the School of Law at Singapore Management University!
In the English pattern, Law has been studied as an undergraduate degree like History or Chemistry. In the North American pattern, Law is not studied until a degree has first been obtained in another subject. Singapore has until recently followed the English approach, but there is no reason why both paths cannot be followed side by side.
SMU's new J.D. programme is aimed at those who have a degree in another discipline or a law degree from another jurisdiction. It includes the whole of the law content of the LL.B. degree.
This is an exciting development. There are real opportunities in the legal profession for those who undertake J.D. studies.
